DESCRIPTION:Say ZuZu was the seacoast’s seminal alt-country rock band. Inspired by ye olde rock music of yore\, ever-swooning over the folk singers of seacoast coffee houses\, and increasingly entranced by honky-tonk music\, Say ZuZu toured extensively in the US and Europe\, recorded a slew of albums\, raised chickens\, and grew large sideburns. They crafted earnest lyrics with tight harmonies and ragged arrangements\, and their fans liked their music better than their stage banter. ZuZu’s reunion includes singer/guitarists Jon Nolan and Cliff Murphy\, as well as bassists James Nolan and Jon Pistey\, and drummers Steve Ruhm and Tim Nylander. They are having a special reunion show to celebrate the many shows they played at the Elvis Room in the 1990s. FIRST SHOW SOLD OUT so please get tickets asap to see this special reunion.

DESCRIPTION:Sample Elvis Room Journal Page \nWalking into The World Famous Elvis Room was alternately exhilarating and comforting. There was a motorcycle parked in the storefront window\, a room with a stage that hosted epic punk rockers adjacent to another with a counter for pastries and coffee that was a refuge for youths who sat on cushy furniture by wide windows facing Congress Street\, journaling or drawing in notebooks and communing with each other.\nThe World Famous Elvis Room closed two decades ago\, but lives on as representative of the zeitgeist of Portsmouth’s 1990s rock and roll spirit. Most patrons self-identified as outsiders\, but felt an inclusive sense of community there\, no matter which side of the venue they were drawn to. \nIf you ever went to a show\, sat on the couches\, drank coffee\, wrote in the journals or just hung out at The Elvis Room then come to our open mic style Poems & Stories Night on Sunday\, October 6th. Share your memories and laugh with old friends over a pint of Liars Bench Beer Company’s limited edition Elvis Room brew. We might even get their house roast back for all you coffee drinkers 🙂 \nPortsmouth Book & Bar will be housing the well loved journals for the month of October so that people can check them out and reminisce. We will have a display and more details in the future. \nThis event is a fundraiser and 100% of all proceeds will be donated so be generous and toss what you can in the hat! We’re really looking forward to participating in the 20th year anniversary of the closing of this iconic venue; see you on 10/6!
